Iron Man, it’s him. The director of the film bluntly admits it was Elon Musk who inspired his vision of Tony Stark, the brilliant industrialist who spends half his time in red armor. Like him, Musk is a billionaire who loves beautiful cars. Like him, he has everything from the engineer-Handyman touch-to-everything.
In fact, Elon Musk didn’t just “see” Iron Man in the movies. He played his own role in the second installment, in 2008, in a scene where he offers Tony Stark to study “an electric jet”.
In fact, the Space X premises served as the filming location for several scenes of the film. For Jon Favreau, it was a way to pay tribute to the man who gave birth to his vision of Iron Man. Because the director has never hidden it: Elon Musk is the very real entrepreneur on which the character of Tony Stark is based in his films.
“I was trying to adapt this billionaire genius character Tony Stark to film on the big screen. I didn’t know how to make it real. Robert Downey Jr (the actor who plays Iron Man in the movies) then told me ‘we have to meet Elon Musk’’ He was totally right,” Jon Favreau told Time in 2010.
